Vutukuri Ramayya Sreshti (VRS) & Yarlagadda Ranganayakulu Naidu (YRN) College, Chirala, was started way back in 1951 as VRS College with the munificence of Sri Vutukuri Ramayya Sreshti, to cater to the educational needs of backward and deprived rural sections of the then Guntur District of Madras State. VRS College has been rechristened as VRS & YRN College since 1962 after the donation of an eminent philanthropist Sri Yarlagadda Ranganayakulu Naidu through his charitable trust for the development of the College. 

VRS & VRN College of Engineering and Technology was started in year 2002 and the undergraduate BE program was introduced based on the sanction from AICTE, New Delhi.  In the year 2009-2010, a polytechnic course was introduced. Post-graduate M.Tech programs were introduced in the year 2010-2011 based on the sanction from AICTE, New Delhi.

VRS & YRN College, as on date, through its affiliation with Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU) Guntur, Andhra Pradesh is offering Under Graduate B.A. courses in varied combinations having specializations in History, Economics, Political Science, Psychology, Special Telugu, Special English; B.Com General; B.Sc. courses in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Geology, Computer Science, Computer Maintenance, Statistics. The college also offers Post Graduate M.Com; MBA; MCA; M. Sc., (Oils, Fats & Petrochemicals); M. Sc. (Chemistry).

The college through its affiliation with the State Board of Technical Education and Training is offering Polytechnic Diploma courses in Electronics and Communications Engineering (ECE), Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE). 

The college through its affiliation with Jawaharlal Nehru Technical University, Kakinada (JNTUK) is offering B.Tech Programs in Computer Science Engineering (CSE), Electronics and Communications Engineering (ECE), Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE), Mechanical Engineering (MECH), Civil Engineering (CIVIL); M.Tech programs in Computer Science, Electronics and Communications, and Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
